Well-Child Checks

As a board-certified pediatrician, Dr.  Wiermaa is excited to perform Well Child Checks for your child. For healthy children, Well-Child Checks are recommended at the following points in the child's life:

◦ In the first week of life ◦ 1 month ◦ 2 months ◦ 4 months ◦ 6 months ◦ 9 months ◦ 12 months ◦ 15 months ◦ 18 months ◦ 24 months ◦ 30 months ◦ 36 months ◦ At 48 months and yearly after that.

What is involved in a well-child check?

Measurements to determine if a child is growing appropriately:

◦ Weight ◦ Height ◦ Head circumference (in children less than three years old) ◦ It is essential to recognize early when a child is not growing well.  Early recognition can lead to early treatment. ◦ Blood pressure (yearly starting when the child is three years old) ◦ Bloodwork to check for anemia and lead levels (at ages 1-year-old and two years old)

•Sensory evaluations to determine if a child can see and hear well:

◦ Vision check ◦ Hearing check

Caretakers' concerns:

Caretakers can ask the doctor questions and find out what is normal and what deserves more investigation: ◦ It is helpful for a caretaker to write down questions before the visit.

Development: The doctor evaluates whether the child is meeting their developmental milestones. The fact that a child is not meeting his developmental milestones can mean that he has an underlying medical problem and/or needs developmental therapies.

Anticipatory guidance and holistic suggestions:

During visits, a whole-food, organic diet with decreased exposure to environmental toxins will be discussed.

Acute Pediatric Visits

As a board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Wiermaa offers acute visits if your child has an acute illness with a fever, cough, sore throat, ear pain, vomiting/diarrhea, rash, or other changes in health. She will not require masks. If you are interested in more information on this, please see the following sample letter and references to support this decision.

Dr. Wiermaa will always aim to treat your child as naturally and holistically as possible. At times prescription medications may be discussed for managing your child’s illness. However, the choice is always up to you. Here are common ways to treat pediatric illnesses to avoid unnecessary pharmaceutical prescriptions. The recommendation supplements can be found on the Standard Process Website. Dr. Wiermaa recommends these vitamins for your child because they are food-based from an organic farm in Wisconsin rather than synthetic. You can apply under patient direct to order directly from their site. A provider code will be provided upon request to apply for a direct patient account. The doses below are estimates; please ask for specifics based on your child’s symptoms and weight/age.

Although there is no single medical, physical, or genetic test for ADHD, a diagnostic evaluation can be provided by a qualified physician who gathers information from multiple sources. These sources include ADHD symptom checklists, standardized behavior rating scales, a detailed history of past and current functioning, and information obtained from family members or significant others who know the person well.

Dr. Wiermaa uses the Vanderbilt assessment scale for Children and the DSM-V-based adult self-assessment scale for adults.

Dr. Wiermaa is happy to provide a holistic management plan for those diagnosed with ADHD.

Dr. Wiermaa is a provider of low-dose naltrexone (LDN) for autoimmune diseases, cancer, anxiety, depression, long Covid, autism, irritable bowel syndrome, and others.

LDN is not a new or experimental medication. Naltrexone first received FDA approval in 1984 and has had thousands of studies since then showing it to be safe, effective, and non-toxic. What is new, is the discovery that when given in doses much lower than normal, <1% or even lower, it has an unexpected and remarkable ability to help optimize the body’s immune system in a powerful and natural way— something medicine has been hoping to find for a very long time. It is not LDN itself, but rather the body’s response, that is responsible for the healing. LDN is inexpensive and has minimal to no side effects, which are typically short-lasting and self-resolving once proper dosing has been achieved.

She relies on low-dose naltrexone, diet and lifestyle interventions, and re-purposed drugs such as metformin, atorvastatin, doxycycline, ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, aspirin, melatonin, and others. Dr. Wiermaa recommends supplements based on the driving mechanisms of your specific cancer. Common supplements recommended include green tea ECGC, quercetin, curcumin, grapeseed extract, Vitamin D3, Vitamin C, mushrooms, alpha-lipoic acid, resveratrol, berberine, milk thistle, and others. Dr. Wiermaa is certified through the Institute of Functional medicine and provided functional medicine care for people with chronic health problems, such as ADHD, asthma/allergies, thyroid challenges, metabolic syndrome/diabetes, GERD, chronic fatigue, migraines/ headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, arthritis and more.

By addressing the root cause, rather than symptoms, practitioners become oriented to identifying the complexity of the disease. They may find one condition has many different causes and, likewise, one cause may result in many different conditions. As a result, functional medicine treatment targets the specific manifestations of disease in each individual.
